Course Description
Skills acquisition are the foundation of sports science while the development of skill, the ability to learn, improve and develop performance are central to the role of coach. Participants will be expose to various psychological theories and models relating to skill acquisition. Most importantly, they will learn how to apply this theoretical knowledge in practical ways, which they can utilize when creating their own training methodology.
Learning will be done asynchronously online to allow participants to have deeper understanding of the subject. There will be one live synchronous online class on the last session which allow participants to clarify their doubts and further deepens their understanding of this module.

Dr. Paul Ford is a highly respected figure in coaching science and skill acquisition, with extensive experience in developing performance pathways and leading national research initiatives. His work focuses on the interaction between talent development, coaching practice, and athlete learning.

Dr. Andre Roca is an internationally recognised expert in perceptual-cognitive expertise and decision-making in sport. His research explores how athletes acquire and apply information under pressure, and how practice environments can be optimised for learning.
Together, Professor Ford and Dr. Roca bring a wealth of academic insight and applied experience. Their published work has shaped thinking around skill learning, representative design, and the development of expertise in high-performance sport—making them ideal thought leaders for this course.
